Jonah Gensler from the Ironbound Community Corporation was kind enough to chat for a few minutes for the Daily Newarker. As mentioned before on the blog, the ICC provides services to residents in the Ironbound including a preschool, community organizing, and community planning. I spoke with Jonah about:
- the shipping containers in the East Ironbound blocking the view of the river from residents
- the closure of Saint James Hospital
- community services, mobile health facilities and charity care
- land development and city planning
- how the slowing economy is having an impact on publicly-funded charity operations
- Jonah’s prediction on what will Newark be like in five years
