An attorney for Sharpe James today urged a federal judge to overturn the corruption verdicts against the former Newark mayor or grant him a new trial.
Almost two months after a jury convicted the legendary mayor of conspiring to help his onetime mistress buy cheap city land, James’ defense argued in new filings what it had contended during the trial: Prosecutors repeatedly failed to prove a crime.
