The ??Ledger Updates?? blog provides some details on previous shootings and highlights a third in the last couple of days, this time in the Ironbound: “Three men shot, two fatally, in Newark incidents”:http://blog.nj.com/ledgerupdates/2007/05/three_men_shot_two_fatally_in.html.

The second murder took place shortly after 3 a.m. today in the 300 block of New York Avenue, when an unidentified man in a gray- or silver-colored Mercedes fired shots at the victim, hitting him several times, police said.

The man was also taken to University Hospital, where he died shortly afterward, police said.

The neighborhood where the incident took place is a very quiet area in the Ironbound: two blocks from Independence park, and five blocks from the local shopping mall with a Pathmark and a Blockbuster. I’ve walked my dog past this street.

Update: No word as of yet as to whether there have been any arrests made in this case. I’ve written up some thoughts on “living with violent crime in the Ironbound”:http://dailynewarker.com/2007/05/21/on-violent-crime-in-the-ironbound/.
