Corrections Officer Wounded in Shooting
August 8, 2007
Newark cannot get a break this summer. While the city is still grieving over the deaths of three college students last weekend, along comes another shooting death. A corrections officer was wounded after a confrontation with an unidentified man. The officer fatally shot the attacker, and sustained an injury in his foot. The situation is under investigation by the attorney general’s office, but whatever the outcome, the incident still represents another violent end to life here.
this is sad situation. the officer knew the person, and is trying to act as if he doesnt.that was a situation tht could have been handled a certain way. the officer is hollering self defense , but he not telling that he owed some mony for seeling drugs for the deceased in the prison.
Oooh, what!!??
Now, please be sure that you know what you are talking about before you publicly link that officer to that sort of corruption.
I will admit, the details that were released to the newspaper had a sinister tinge to them. Why would someone carry a loaded weapon while simply sitting out on their front porch? That scenario suggests that he expected big trouble. Still, an investigation is going on, so we cannot jump to any crazy conclusions until those investigators dig up all the relevant facts in the case and can draw a solid, supportable conclusion.
I’am a correction officer an I carry my gun all the time,if I lived in newark I would carry a bazooka.
as if shabazz is not the name of 17%OF the inmates in the state of N.J. THAT SAID GOOD GUYS ONE BAD GUYS 0.
lets stop from keeping score and dividing people between good guys and bad guys until the scenario is investigated by a nonpartisan source. i’m not trying to smear john jj. if you claim you aren’t corrupt, then i’ll take your word for it. but you can only speak for yourself.
i don’t understand why whenever it’s a correction officer involved the first thing everybody wants to holler that the officer is corrupt. When the facts are nj state department of corrections have some of the best trained officers in te nation and most of them make a salary that would deter corruption. They work one of the hardest, most dangerous beats in the country. They sometimes have given the greatest sacrifice…I’m talking life and limb…and abuse wise they have probably the best record in the country while still dealing with the individuals that you don’t want living next to you. They don’t get praise for what they do and there under the highest scrutiny of any officers in the state with numbers rainging near eight thousand and you must assume that every man or woman incarcerated in the state of nj is a potential enemy. try to wear their shoes THEN tell me what you think.
I was a C.O. at Raway State Prison during the 80’s and I would like to say to the officers there to continue doing the job you guys do because unless that person walked a tier or worked in a inmate dining room, shut up!Prison is no joke or game, Officers are locked up like inmates and share the same experences as a inmate and some have worse. inmates throw human waste on you, they try to escape and harm you and they are thinking 24 hrs. a day on how to beat the system. the military has the Code of Military Justice. we need a Code of penile Justice. To bring some control to the prison system in NJ. Its more like a holding area till they do their time. For some prison is so nice that they go back twice. I say to the state do what needs to be done stop running a day camp for crooks.
