Rodolfo Godinez and his teenage brother were picked up in Virginia this morning. Apparently, police and FBI were able to zero in on them by use of their cellphones. This leaves one teenage suspect at large.
Godinez is “believed to play a key role”:http://dailynewarker.com/2007/08/12/details-on-shooting-suspects-police-search-for-three-more-suspects/ in the murder of three college students “two weeks ago today”:http://dailynewarker.com/2007/08/06/execution-style-shootings-kill-three-injure-another/.
Authorities this morning arrested two Newark brothers wanted for their role in the Aug. 4 execution style slayings of three college students, law enforcement sources said.
The arrests of 24-year-old Rodolfo Godinez and his 16-year-old brother took place in in the Washington, D.C., area, capping a two-week manhunt. One person, described as a teeneager, remains at large.
Godinez, who has been described as a “principal player” in the schoolyard killings, was arrested at around 1 a.m. at an aparrtment in Oxen Hill, Md., Prince Georges County, said U.S. Marshal James Plousis.
Eight other people were in the apartment at the time of the arrest, Plousis said, and Godinez knew at least some of them.
Acting on information they received at the apartment, authorities then arrested the 16-year-old in Woodbridge, Va., several miles away. The teen is now being held at a juvenile facility in Prince William County, Va., Plousis said.
Plousis said the arrests were made “without incident. There was no struggle.”
“We were following leads and information and tips,” he said. “We were really lucky it panned out. We had informants up here…and from that region who gave us information. We followed other leads. One of the tipsters gave us some solid information.”
Godinez and his brother have been the subject if an intense manhunt that expanded throughout the East Coast down to Florida.
