A judge has ruled that two teenagers who were arrested in the killing of three young people and the wounding of another in a Newark schoolyard last summer can be tried as adults, clearing the way for presentation of the case to a grand jury, prosecutors said on Friday.

The teenagers, Shahid Baskerville, 16, of Morristown and Gerardo Gomez, 15, of Newark, each face three counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and weapons offenses related to a machete and handguns that prosecutors said the teenagers used during the crime. Essex County Superior Court Judge James G. Troiano transferred their cases to adult court late on Thursday.

These kids made the decision to take others lives. They should have to deal with the consequences. If they were grown enough to worry about running the streets as hoods instead of focusing on being children, they should be grown enough to sit in that courtoom and be tried as adults.
