The problems of Newark murder, drug dealing, robbery and others can all be tied to being broke. I see the problems my people are encountering for I myself am encountering the same problems. I don’t have an answer I would say go to school get an education but it’s hard to do homework when the lights have been turned off. I’ve been there and I know it may not sound like it but, it is a lot easier to rob or deal for money than find a job.
One of the problems as I see it our children aren’t allowed to truly be children. When you face so many trials and tribulations it’s hard to have a normal. Well what is considered not to be normal in Newark childhood. As parents and as children we have to remember to live our lives today but plan for tomorrow. I know that sounds to simplistic or even simple but think about it. We live to eat today and figure out what happens tomorrow then. In more affluent neighborhoods they know tomorrow is coming so however today pans out is fine. We don’t do that because we think tomorrow isn’t promised. We hustle to eat today not knowing when you get locked up and grow up it’s hard to get a job take care of your family be self sufficient without government aide. I am not deriding people who need it just saying if you prepare for life properly you may not. I know things come up and it maybe hard but, look at it this way know wants to make minimum wage forever but you got to start some where. I’ll be 25 and have 10 yaers work expereince and no record it’s a lot easier to find a job and when I started working minimum wage was 5.00 per. Being 25 and no work experience with a full rapsheet is to much to have on your plate.
I just say think before you act it could save you a lot of drama. The poem at the bottom speaks for itself.
| No Money 2 Many problemsMore money more problems I can’t tell cause being broke is part of the reason I’m living in Hell. No money and too many problems is more like it, poverty is a disease and I’m tired of fighting it. Tired of trying to struggle and strive I’d rather have some money and thrive. Whatever problems money creates I can take it cause there are too many without it and I can’t take it. They say empty pockets full heart which makes me feel like a two time loser. For, I was born broke and alone like any loser, yet cooler heads still prevail so I’m no druggy or abuser. I just need some cash or a way to get it cause every way I’ve tried ain’t hitting it. I know one of these days I’ll get the money and the problems I covet. It got to be better then this cause now living life seems so rugged. Next level money, dreams, hopes and fears. I don’t care what they say I would love to use a Hundred Dollar Bills to wipe my tears. |

I totally disagree with Wadoo’s assertion that “The problems of Newark murder, drug dealing, robbery and others can all be tied to being broke.”
The problem is people are no longer raised to “live right.” I grew up in, and surrounded by, poverty. But I also grew up in a loving home where I was sternly taught that there was consequences to bad behavior and the “golden rule” was tantatmount.
Wadoo’s philosophy angers me greatly. Until we as urban black people can once again take a control of our culture, we will not make any inroads. The culture I’m talking about is one in which a) elders are respected b) one looks out for one’s neighbor and one’s neighbors children c) one respects universal human values such as not killing and not stealing d) education and culture (class) is more important than bling and vulgarity.
I can tell you I’d be the first one to snitch if I knew it would lead to helping clean our streets of the hooligans who are holding all of us hostage.
