Star Ledger: Feds nab 7 in Colombia to N.Y. to Newark drug ring

Federal immigration and customs agents this week arrested seven people allegedly involved in a drug distribution ring that funneled Colombian heroin and cocaine from Upper Manhattan to Newark’s streets.

The agents, who investigate international drug smuggling and money laundering, spent months on a wiretap listening to the dealers’ cell phone conversations. The recordings led them to a Newark house on Richelieu Terrace, guarded by surveillance cameras, where 36-year-old Keith Stewart ran a mid-level retail operation that supplied local street dealers, said Thomas Manifase, deputy special agent in charge of investigations for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Newark.
