Hit-and-run suspect leaps into river in Newark
Okay, this story is just totally bizarre. Update: the man was later found dead.

The suspect reportedly struck the victim at Market and Chambers streets shortly after 2 a.m. He continued going before abandoning the car and jumping in the river a short distance away at Raymond Boulevard and Somme Street, McClendon said.

Police spent several hours searching the river but did not find the suspect.

“The suspect has not yet been located or removed from the water,” McClendon said. “However, he was last seen in the water drowning and is presumed dead pending official recovery and pronouncement.”
