Sharpe James: I made a mistake

Sharpe James: I made a mistake
James apologizes before Judge Martini prior to his sentencing, expected later today.

I thank God almighty …

I would like to apologize to my wife of 44 years, Mary and my three sons and my mother, who is 94, for the hardship and suffering they have had to endure.

I would like to thank the citizens of Newark … they have become my extended family and they have tried to comfort us … We all love the city of Newark. … All my life I have just simply tried to help the City of Newark and leave it a better place than I found it.

If I made a mistake, your honor, it was not of malice or intent. I would never do anything to hurt the City of Newark or the people of Newark I would offer my apology to this court and the citizens of Newark.

… I do have a wife that is dependent upon me and three sons and a 94-year-old mother …

I made a mistake. I am a human being. It was not of malice or intent.”

  1. I do not wish Mayor James ill will, only that justice be served. I think 27 months, if served completely, is close to it for the charges here. The rest of his crimes, like the violations of civic trust through fraudulent charges on a city credit card, will have to go unpunished. But they reveal the true malice intent, the REAL DEAL intent that drove this man to do all he did in his last decade in office.
